Information about the Vancouver Canucks

There are many people within the world of North American Hockey as well as the hockey community globally that look at the Vancouver Canucks to be quite an underrated team considering the amount of longevity and success that they have had as a franchise. Considering the fact that the franchise has been able to make it through the difficult times and prevail for over sixty years is reason enough for hockey fans to show this great franchise respect. However there are many other reasons that the Vancouver Canucks are bound to become a team that is talked about for many more years.

Originally the team didn't join the National Hockey League until they were granted an expansion franchise in 1970 along with the Buffalo Sabres. However it's important to note that this was not truly the beginning of the franchise. There were many years before being granted the expansion franchise by the National Hockey League that the franchise would spend developing and preparing in many other notable professional hockey leagues.

It was originally a long time coming for Vancouver to receive a new franchise within the National Hockey League. In 1967 there was much controversy when a bid was put in for the city to receive an NHL franchise. Many people believe that it was Stafford Smythe who was the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time who would sabotage the deal resulting in it eventually falling through on claims that the city was ill prepared for a franchise. However there were also many other people that thought that they other Canadian franchises would not allow it out of fear of having to share television revenue from the CBC or the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Many people still believe that these things played a huge role in Vancouver not receiving the franchise for the original bid in 1967. It wasn't for another three years that the Vancouver group involved with trying to obtain the franchise would make another bid to the National Hockey League that would eventually result in the city receiving a franchise for much more than they would have paid just a few years before costing them a total of six million dollars. However the question now is where the team would come from. Once being awarded the franchise the group would then go on to purchase the Canucks who were currently playing in the WHL or the World Hockey League and join the National Hockey League as the Vancouver Canucks in the 1970-71 season.

The team would not have much success in the early years being placed in the East Division, which was full of extremely talented teams despite its western location. However it would eventually pull through the initial tough times that every franchise experiences and go on to be quite a successful competitor within the National Hockey League to this day. These are the reasons that the Vancouver Canucks are definitely not going to be going anywhere soon.
