Event Date: Fri, Jun 11, 2010 @ 1:00 PM Event Location: HP Pavilion (San Jose) Information about the San Jose SharksThere are many relatively new teams and franchises in the National Hockey League these days. In comparison to many of the other more experienced teams, most of these young franchises will not have much success and many of them will eventually be forced to fold the franchise or move the team. There are many different factors that contribute to a franchise's ability to be successful within the National Hockey League. One of the biggest is the ability to create a market for the sport that will prove to be profitable, while the other is developing a team that will be able to compete and be successful on the ice. This is a delicate balance that many franchises take decades to achieve and there are also some that will never accomplish this task. However one team that has been able to stand the test of time and do all of these things in the relatively short amount of time they have been a franchise is the San Jose Sharks. The San Jose Sharks currently play in the National Hockey League in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference and is based in San Jose, California. They currently call the HP Pavilion at San Jose home for all of their home games. There are many reasons why the success of this franchise is notable among all of the others. One of the main factors is that there were a ton of skeptics when it came to brining professional hockey to the Bay Area. Originally California received a franchise that would go through many names including the California Golden Seals and the Oakland Seals. However these teams would not have much success and later be moved further reinforcing the opinions of the skeptics. Years later there were many people once again trying to bring a team to the Bay Area and San Jose specifically, one of which was the current owner of the Hartford Whalers who was trying to bring a team to the area. There was much controversy among the deals that would eventually allow for a franchise in San Jose including Howard Baldwin who owned the Hartford Whalers receiving ownership of the North Stars as the team would eventually be allowed to bring certain North Star players to play for the new expansion team in San Jose. After the Bay Area finally got hold of a team that would become the San Jose Sharks, the franchise went through many tough years struggling in the league and trying to make a name for themselves among the growing National Hockey League. However they would eventually get much help with this by several different factors including getting hold of the HP Pavilion, which is often referred to, as the Shark Tank by fans. Another extremely large help to the franchise was the acquiring of many star players that would eventually help the team to cement themselves as a competitive team within the league and the world of hockey. |
