Information about the San Diego Chargers
With a name like the Chargers, you would think this to be a high energy football team - and you would be right. Though they began as the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960, this San Diego based team continues to draw crowds and to sell San Diego Chargers tickets. With Chargers tickets in hand, you're not only buying a seat in the stadium, but also you're getting to see a team that's evolved from a long and scattered past.
As a part of the American Football League in 1960, the Los Angeles Chargers began with the help of Barron Hilton. The Chargers won one AFL titles in 1963 and even went to the playoffs in their division five times before the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. Since the merger, the San Diego Chargers have succeeded in going to 4 championship games and in making it to the playoffs ten times. This is a team with an excellent long term record, even if the more recent seasons have been less than stellar.
Sid Gillman was the coach of the original Los Angeles Chargers from 1960 to 1969. He worked hard to teach his team about forward passing offense and with strong results. Of course, his team consisted of strong players like Paul Lowe, Lance Alworth, Keith Lincoln, and John Hadl. These teammates helped to sell Chargers tickets by winning divisional crowns 5 out of 6 seasons. What's more is that though they were brilliant on offense, they were also a strong defensive line, allowing the team to be versatile against nearly every team's strengths.
But once the Chargers were merged into the NFL, things became a little trickier. Now a part of the AFC West, the San Diego Chargers lost their wining coach and that winning lineup was all but gone. Even though the Chargers added greats like Johnny Unitas, these players were already past their prime and didn't quite get back to the greatness they'd enjoyed just a few years earlier.
What many people may also remember is that in 1978, the San Diego Chargers were a part of the Holy Roller game, or the game of "Immaculate Deception." This game resulted in the Oakland Raiders just barely winning because of a series of fumbles and errors. As a result of this play, the rules of the NFL were changed so that only the last offensive player to handle the ball could retrieve a fumble and advance the ball.
Today, the San Diego Chargers play their home games at Qualcomm Stadium, or the 'Q,' as it is affectionately known. This stadium is located at 9449 Friars Road in San Diego, California. Built in 1967, this stadium can hold over 71,000 football fans, but is also home to the San Diego State Aztecs. This stadium also serves as the location of the Holiday Bowl and the Poinsettia Bowl.
You can find San Diego Chargers tickets online or you can find Chargers tickets through larger ticket merchants. But don't delay - with the bright sunshine of San Diego, tickets sell out fast at all times of year.
