Information about the Oakland Raiders

The distinctive black and silver colors of the Oakland Raiders make them easily identifiable, even to non-football fans. But if you hold Oakland Raiders tickets, you know this is a team that's worth learning more about. With Raiders tickets, you have a chance to witness something special on the playing field. Raiders football games are like no others - here's why.

Based in Oakland, California, the Raiders began their football team in 1960 within the American Football League as a part of the Western Division. Then, in 1970, they became a part of the National Football League as a part of the AFC West. In the American Football League, the Raiders won one championship and three division titles. During their NFL time, they have won three Super Bowl titles and 12 division titles. Clearly, this is a team that works hard and plays even harder when they're on the field. The thirteen members of their team who've made it to the Hall of Fame are examples of just how great their players have been.

The Oakland Raiders were awarded the eighth AFL franchise in 1960, making them the second of West Coast teams, along with the San Francisco 49s. Though this might have seemed like a poor move to have two teams so close to each other, it proved to intensify the play of the teams. But without an official stadium, the Raiders were forced to play in San Francisco's Kezar Stadium. In time, the Raiders were allowed to move back to Candlestick Park in 1960, creating the first time professional football would be played in a brand new stadium.

As the youngest head coach and general manager, Al Davis had a heavy weight on his shoulders with the Oakland Raiders. He arrived after the 1962 season, but his bold decisions seem to be exactly what the team needed. Not only did Davis implement the black and silver uniforms, but he also created a strategy called the 'vertical game.' This strategy helped the Raiders improve dramatically, and he was named the Coach of the Year in 1963.

Davis tried to move the Oakland Raiders to Los Angeles in order to get renovations done to their stadium, but the motion was defeated. However, following attempts were successful and the team moved in 1982. The Raiders lost in the second round of playoffs that year to the New York Jets. The team returned to Oakland in 1995.

The Raiders currently play their home games at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum at 7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland, California. The stadium is often referred to as The Coliseum or the Oakland Coliseum as well. Built in 1962 to 1966, this stadium holds up to 63,000 football fans and uses bluegrass on the field. The stadium also is the home of the Oakland Athletics and San Jose Earthquakes.

Purchasing Oakland Raiders tickets is simple, just go to their website or to any local ticket seller. While Raiders tickets during the playoffs can be hard to come by, regular season tickets are easily available.
