Las Vegas Sports Consultants – VegasInsider.com Week 13 College Football Poll

Posted on November 24, 2009

Not many changes week over week. Florida stays at #4, while the #8 and the #10 teams look to hash it out in the Rose Bowl. Huge matchups in the PAC 10 the next couple weeks, UCLA vs USC and Oregon vs Oregon State in the Civil War. Can't wait to see how the SEC Championship game plays out, that should / will put at least 1 team in the national title game. Seathound.com thinks Texas will roll over the Big 12 North Champion, so their spot is already locked up. Regardless of the sentimental value of a non BCS school, no way TCU makes it in over Texas, not after last years debacle.

Both the Hawkeyes and the Nittany Lions are over rated, but who's to tell any different the Big 10 is typically weak. Hopefully we will get 2 non BCS schools in the BCS bowl games, a Cincinnati vs Boise St Game would be fantastic, as would a TCU vs Alabama game. Cheers to a great year so far.

Rank Team 2009 SU* 2009 ATS** Skinny
1 - Alabama Crimson Tide 11-0 7-2 Don't be surprised if the Tigers put a little scare into Alabama. This is a good spot for a look ahead trap with the Crimson Tide since they have the SEC Title Game the following week.
2 - TCU Horned Frogs 11-0 8-2 TCU is going to need to drop a mushroom cloud at home against the Lobos if they want to have any hopes of winning a share of a national championship.
3 - Texas Longhorns 11-0 5-5-1 The Longhorns had no issues with Kansas last weekend. It certainly looks like it will take an act of God to knock Texas out of the BCS Title Game.
4 - Florida Gators 11-0 4-5-1 The Gators had their way against Florida International. Did we really expect anything less from them?
5 - Cincinnati Bearcats 10-0 5-4 It may not look like it right now, but Cincy will be in a prime spot for a look ahead trap this week against the Illini.
6 - Boise State Broncos 11-0 8-2 The Broncos may have been a little slow to get started against Utah State, but they blew them up for 52 points. Boise State will need all it can muster this week against the Wolf Pack, who have been running over everyone recently.
7 - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 10-1 7-3 The Yellow Jackets get to have a rematch with Clemson for the ACC's BCS berth. Will Georgia Tech get its second win over the Tigers this season?
8 - Ohio State Buckeyes 10-2 8-4 The Buckeyes used their defense to pick up their sixth straight win over Michigan. All that is left for Ohio State now is to sit back and find out who its Rose Bowl opponent will be.
9 - Pittsburgh Panthers 9-1 6-3 The Panthers have to avoid a let down this week against West Virginia before taking on Cincy for the Big East crown.
10 - Oregon Ducks 9-2 7-4 The Ducks won a thriller with Arizona last weekend. Oregon controls its Rose Bowl destiny with a win against in-state rival, the Beavers.
11 - Iowa Hawkeyes 10-2 7-3-1 Floyd of Rosedale is staying with the Hawkeyes after their win over Minnesota. Now all Iowa can do is hope its body of work is better than the Nittany Lions for a shot at the big bowls.
12 - Penn State Nittany Lions 10-2 5-6 Penn State may just have played itself back into a BCS bowl. Now can they actually win it once they get there?
13 - Oklahoma State Cowboys 9-2 5-4-1 The Cowboys got the win against Colorado, but they showed just how bad they need Zac Robinson under center.
14 - Virginia Tech Hokies 8-3 5-5-1 The Hokies will most likely put an end to Al Groh's misery at Virginia this weekend with a win. Will that also give Virginia Tech a good chance at a BCS berth?
15 - BYU Cougars 9-2 5-5-1 Max Hall solidified his spot as one of the best quarterbacks BYU has ever had after putting up five scores last week against the Air Force. Can he help them erect a statue in his honor with a win over Utah?
16 - LSU Tigers 8-3 4-5-2 It's pretty good assumption that Les Miles will not be writing any books about how to manage your time properly anytime soon.
17 - Utah Utes 9-2 4-7 The Utes dominated San Diego State last weekend. Can they do the same against the Cougars this weekend in the Holy War?
18 - Clemson Tigers 8-3 7-3 Dabo Swinney's first full year with the Tigers ends with a trip to the ACC Final. Perhaps he should send some flowers to Butch Davis as a "thank you?"
19 - Miami Hurricanes 8-3 5-5 The 'Canes may not be making the ACC Title Game, but they do close out the conference campaign with a solid win over Duke.
20 - Wisconsin Badgers 8-3 4-6 Wisconsin may have the best offense in the Big Ten, but it didn't look nearly as good as the Wildcats' attack to close out conference play.
21 - West Virginia Mountaineers 7-3 3-5 West Virginia doesn't have a shot at the Big East crown after losing to the Bearcats. The Mountaineers, however, do have a chance at killing an "at-large" BCS bid for the conference if they can beat Pitt this week.
22 - Stanford Cardinal 7-4 7-4 Toby Gerhart did everything he could to help the Cardinal beat California. It's too bad that Andrew Luck threw Stanford's chance at a Rose Bowl berth away. Of course, we can blame Jim Harbaugh for his late play calling as well.
23 - Houston Cougars 9-2 7-2 Case Keenum picked up another five touchdown passes last Saturday against Memphis. It's too bad that he won't get an sniff at the Heisman Trophy as Keenum certainly deserves a shot.
24 - Oregon State Beavers 8-3 6-4 Washington State proved to be no match for the Beavers. Now all Oregon State has to do is beat the Ducks for its first trip to the Rose Bowl since 1965. No pressure, right?
25 - USC Trojans 7-3 2-8 A rough year for the Trojans appears to get a little rougher with UCLA and Arizona left on the schedule. The odds are pretty good that they'll lose at least one of those matchups.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants – Week 12 – Vegas Insider Top 25

Posted on November 17, 2009

HUGE shakeup in the top 5 this week. The reigning number 1 Florida Gators have been dropped 4 slots to number 4 while the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Longhorns both jumped them. Don't worry Gator fans, you will be able to prove yourself coming up in Atlanta, GA at the Georgia Dome for the SEC Championship game.

With only a few unmeaningful SEC games to play it appears that it will be Alabama or Florida vs Texas or TCU. Does the BCS have the stones to keep Texas out a second year? Probably not, but who knows. Utah proved that the little guy can play with anyone, maybe that helps TCU in the long run. Time will tell.

Again, the LVSC, VegasInsider.com poll is derived buy who would be favored in a head to head matchup. This is money talking not the national media. Check out the rankings below, along with some expert comments from those who write the lines.

Rank Team 2009 SU* 2009 ATS** Skinny
1 - Alabama Crimson Tide - 10-0 7-2 Alabama looks like they're going to cruise through the rest of the regular season. Will they be able to avenge its SEC title game loss against the Gators?
2 - TCU Horned Frogs - 10-0 7-2 How much more does the Horned Frogs need to do before people believe they are worthy of a shot at the national title?
3 - Texas Longhorns - 10-0 4-5-1 It is going to take one hell of a screw up for the Longhorns not to make it to Pasadena this January for the hardware.
4 - Florida Gators - 10-0 3-5-1 Another week and another so-so win for the Gators. At least they'll get to prove they have a chance at repeating as national champs with a win over Alabama in the SEC title game.
5 - Cincinnati Bearcats - 10-0 5-4 The Bearcats showed that they don't have to be at their best to win a game this past week against West Virginia. Tony Pike showed that he is the real No. 1 quarterback in Cincy.
6 - Boise State Broncos - 10-0 7-2 Boise State is definitely help make a case for a second non-BCS team to make it to the big boy games. Yet they still have to contend with Nevada in two weeks.
7 - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - 10-1 7-3 Georgia Tech demolished the Blue Devils this past Saturday en route to clinching a berth in the ACC title game. Not bad for Paul Johnson's second year on the job.
8 - Ohio State Buckeyes - 9-2 8-3 The good news is that Ohio State clinched a share of its fifth straight Big Ten title. The bad news is the Bucks coughed up a 14-point lead in the fourth to an Iowa team that was playing with a freshman quarterback making his first career start. Don't be shocked if the Wolverines get a lot of action next week against their foes.
9 - Pittsburgh Panthers - 9-1 6-3 Pittsburgh may have been a tad lucky after letting the Fighting Irish fight back in the fourth quarter. That kind of play won't work against the Mountaineers and Bearcats in the next two weeks.
10 - Oregon Ducks - 8-2 7-3 The Sun Devils weren't too much of a problem for Oregon. The same won't be true of Arizona and Oregon State as the Ducks close out the regular season.
11 - LSU Tigers - 8-2 4-4-2 Keiland Williams' two second-half touchdowns helped the Tigers avoid an embarrassing loss to Louisiana Tech.
12 - Iowa Hawkeyes - 9-2 7-3 The Hawkeyes showed a lot of heart in their overtime defeat at Ohio State. You have to think they couldn't have done much better if Ricky Stanzi was under center. At least Iowa still has a chance at a 10-win season and Floyd of Rosedale when they face the Golden Gophers next weekend.
13 - Penn State Nittany Lions - 9-2 4-6 Penn State was the latest team to let the Hoosiers think they had a chance to beat them. Although it has to be a bit worrisome that the Nittany Lions turned the ball over four times.
14 - Oklahoma State Cowboys - 8-2 5-3-1 The Cowpokes got a nice win over Texas Tech and Mike Gundy didn't deliver any "I'm a man, I'm 40" speeches. Sounds like a win-win situation.
15 - Wisconsin Badgers - 8-2 4-5 Wisconsin is the latest team to kick the Wolverines while they're down. The Badgers will look to do the same next week against Northwestern.
16 - Virginia Tech Hokies - 7-3 4-5-1 Virginia Tech put together a solid victory over the Terps. They should be double-digit favorites for the rest of the regular season.
17 - BYU Cougars - 8-2 4-5-1 The Cougars got a hard fought win over New Mexico. The only problem is that BYU shouldn't have to get a hard fought win against the Lobos.
18 - Stanford Cardinal - 7-3 7-3 Stanford is playing the best football in the Pac-10 right now after beating the Ducks and Trojans on back-to-back weekends. They need some help making a trip to the Rose Bowl though since they lost to the Beavers earlier in the year.
19 - USC Trojans - 7-3 2-8 Is it safe to say that the Trojans were this year's most overrated team? It's hard to make an argument for them after getting decimated by the Cardinal.
20 - Utah Utes - 8-2 3-7 If you have to pick one thing for the Utes' loss at TCU, it's the penalty battle. The Horned Frogs had just five flags thrown on them, Utah was called four 13 penalties.
21 - Miami Hurricanes - 7-3 5-4 Butch Davis may no longer coach the 'Canes, but sure does own them. Miami is 0-3 against the Tar Heels since Davis arrived in 2007.
22 - West Virginia Mountaineers - 7-3 3-5 West Virginia had a tough loss that really hinged on a failed fourth down conversion against the Bearcats. Bettors didn't care since the Mountaineers had a miracle cover as 9.5-point road pups versus Cincy.
23 - Clemson Tigers - 7-3 7-2 After seeing how C.J. Spiller played this past weekend against the Wolfpack, you have to wonder where Clemson would be without him.
24 - Houston Cougars - 8-2 6-2 Case Keenum couldn't work his last second magic for another weekend. Of course, it doesn't help that his team coughed up the ball three times, once by Keenum himself. Now the Cougars need help just to make the Conference USA title game.
25 - Oregon State Beavers - 7-3 5-4 It might sound a little crazy, but the Beavers still have a shot at making the Rose Bowl. Is it a longshot? Sure, but a shot nonetheless.

Megadeth and Slayer Prep for Early 2010 Tour – American Carnage

Posted on November 17, 2009

Heavy Metal icons Slayer and Megadeth have laid out 26 shows this winter and are calling it the "American Carnage" Tour. The two metal super groups are teaming up for a co headlining tour for the first time since 1991's "Clash of the Titans" trek, and just like in 1991, Testament will open for the two bands.

To give back to long time fans who may be hurting from the economic recession, both groups have agreed to set aside a limited number of $10 tickets, the same fee it cost to see the three groups back in 1991.

Both groups are supporting recent studio efforts "Endgame" for Megadeth and "World Painted Blood" by Slayer.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants NCAA Football Poll – Vegas Insider Top 25

Posted on November 10, 2009

Another week, more change. TCU seems to be making a BCS run, but with Tony Pike back in the fold at Cincinnati, the experts and VegasInsider.com like the Bear Cats just a little bit better this week. After a couple of shaky games, Alabama gets a HUGE win over LSU at home, and the Florda Gators hold on to their number 1 spot. With their remaining schedule, Texas seems to be a sure in to the national title game the way they are playing, only time will tell whether it's Alabama or Florida who takes spot #2.

Take a look the top 25 Vegas Insider teams below, complete with the straight up records, and records against the spread.

Rank Team 2009 SU* 2009 ATS** Skinny

1 Florida Gators 9-0 3-4-1 The Gators didn't look stellar this past Saturday. But you don't have to when taking on Vanderbilt.
2 Texas Longhorns 9-0 3-5-1 Texas got off to a slow start against the Golden Knights, but Colt McCoy made sure they still won handily. It's going to take a miracle for this team to lose somewhere in Big XII play.
3 Alabama Crimson Tide 9-0 6-3 The Crimson Tide somehow remembered how to play offense just enough to beat LSU in Saban Bowl III.
4 Cincinnati Bearcats 9-0 5-3 Brian Kelly is not sure if he wants to start Zach Collaros or Tony Pike next week versus West Virginia. Perhaps you go with Collaros since he's completed 80 percent of his passes over the last three games.
5 TCU Horned Frogs 9-0 6-2 If any non-BCS school deserves a shot at the title game, it's the Horned Frogs. If TCU gets a blowout win over the Utes, then they've got a legit beef about being in the mix.
6 Boise State Broncos 9-0 6-2 The Broncos had a tough run with Louisiana Tech, but made the plays when they needed to. Shouldn't have any problems with Idaho next week.
7 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 9-1 6-3 The Yellow Jackets control their own destiny in the ACC. You have to wonder if they would get any attention for the national title had they been unbeaten at this point.
8 Ohio State Buckeyes 8-2 8-2 Ohio State's defense made the Nittany Lions miserable last Saturday. Now the Buckeyes are in control of the Big Ten title race...again.
9 Pittsburgh Panthers 8-1 6-2 The Panthers gave bettors a scare, but found a way to cover as 21.5-point home favorites against Syracuse. And they look like they'll have a reasonable chance to beat Notre Dame at home this week.
10 USC Trojans 7-2 2-7 If it weren't for their defense against Arizona State, the Trojans would have dropped their third game in the Pac-10.
11 Oregon Ducks 7-2 6-3 The Ducks learned that you can't expect to win a game when you let your opponent gain over 500 yards offensively.
12 Iowa Hawkeyes 9-1 6-3 The Hawkeyes are still in the hunt for the Rose Bowl. The problem is they'll have to get there without Ricky Stanzi.
13 LSU Tigers 7-2 4-3-2 Well, at least the Tigers know that they're at least going to be going to a bowl game in Florida...most likely the Capital One Bowl.
14 Houston Cougars 8-1 6-1 The Cougars proved that you need to get lucky sometimes in their last second win over Tulsa.
15 Miami Hurricanes 7-2 5-3 The Hurricanes' ACC title hopes aren't dead yet, but they are definitely on life support. At least they had a good win over the Cavaliers.
16 Penn State Nittany Lions 8-2 4-5 The Nittany Lions played their way out of the Big Ten title race and a BCS bowl in their loss to Ohio State.
17 Utah Utes 8-1 3-6 Utah picked up a great win over the Lobos last week. Now can they upend TCU's BCS dreams?
18 Oklahoma State Cowboys 7-2 4-3-1 Oklahoma State had no problems dropping the Cyclones. If they can blow out Texas Tech, Colorado and Oklahoma, then the Cowboys have a shot at a BCS berth.
19 Arizona Wildcats 6-2 4-3 Don't look now, but Arizona can make its first Rose Bowl appearance if they run the table.
20 Wisconsin Badgers 7-2 3-5 The Badgers held off Indiana as they tried to pull off the upset. Wisconsin shouldn't have any issues with a struggling Michigan side.
21 Virginia Tech Hokies 6-3 3-5-1 Ryan Williams may have cost Virginia Tech the game against the Tar Heels, but his 179 rushing yards against the Pirates helped VT win.
22 BYU Cougars 7-2 4-4-1 BYU beat down the Cowboys this past week. We should expect more of the same this week against the Lobos.
23 West Virginia Mountaineers 7-2 2-5 It wasn't pretty, but the Mountaineers got the win against Louisville. Can they be the team to hand Cincy its first loss of the year?
24 South Florida Bulls 6-2 3-3 It's not often that you get back into the poll without playing, but the Bulls are back on the list. Should have two more wins before facing off with the Hurricanes.
25 Stanford Cardinal 6-3 6-3 A great win over the Ducks and sole possession of third place in the Pac-10 means Stanford makes this week's Top 25.
