Sharing a home with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Lakers is one of the oldest and best basketball teams in the nation. With sheer history alone, the Los Angeles Lakers shines above almost all other teams in the nation, regardless of whether they are a winning team or not. Having been born shortly after the start of the WWII, this was a much-needed time of keeping spirits up due to the war and so many individuals going off to Europe to fight. Although America's involved would not be as involved as with WWI, it was nonetheless going to be an intense war. The Los Angeles Lakers holds the longest winning streak ever in the history of the NBA and have been the home of distinguished basketball players like Shaquille O'Neal. Although the team originally began in Minneapolis, they eventually moved to Los Angeles just a few short years later and began an immediate rivalry with the Celtics. This proved to be an excellent decision as the Lakers quickly grew in fame and prestigious to become one of the two foremost professional basketball teams in the nation. The Staples Center is sharing with the Clippers, but remains a stronghold for the Lakers and has been such for decades. In fact, when most people think of Staples Center, they are not thinking of the Los Angeles Clippers but they are thinking about the Lakers. The Lakers, who have had popular famous players, continue to hire only the best to play on their team and represent the Los Angeles Lakers. Phil Jackson, a Hall of Fame coach, began to be the coach of the team and with the help of O'Neal and Kobe Bryant swiftly continued the team's long line of excellence. In fact, the Lakers grew in popularity so much there only true rivals beyond the Celtics were the Chicago Bulls, who only led them due to the actions of Michael Jordan. Although it was not due to Jordan alone and in fact, it was due to the Bull's remarkable communication and coordination together, they nonetheless remained a steadfast obstacle for the Lakers. Yet despite this, the Los Angeles Lakers were a force to be reckoned with and continued their winning streak, reminding all competitors that they were and still are one of the oldest and formidable teams in the nation. For the Lakers, not only do they have the history and the pedigree, but they also have a winning team, which steps proudly forth each season to demonstrate why the Lakers hold the interest of the entire nation. Against rivals who go up against them, one almost has to feel sorry for them because it is hard to consider beating the force of the Lakers, especially when it comes to the playoffs. Yet even so, the reason the Lakers have gotten to where they are today is because of the team. |
